Jelly Bean, meet world!

We had our first appointment today! My wonderful husband accompanied me.

It turns out we are not as far along as we thought, so we are back to apple seed status. More like 4-5 weeks rather than 6+ weeks as I posted last time. I had an ultrasound, but she told us that we would likely not be able to see the fetus because it is too early. We did get to see the sac that the baby is growing in though! It is the small, dark oval that looks like a jelly bean. The larger, light colored oval is the endometrial layer of my uterus, which is protecting the fetus and providing it with nourishment. Even though we didn’t get to see the fetus, it does show us that the baby is growing where it is supposed to and is on the right track! I will go back in 2 weeks (Oct. 6th) and they will do another ultrasound and we will get a due date then.

Here's our baby!

I saw a new doctor – actually a midwife, Jennifer Rewis. She will see me through out the pregnancy, and will also deliver the baby at Northside Hospital. I love love love her. I was surprisingly impressed with the Kaiser facility. We had the exams, blood work and got flu shots without any trouble or frustration at all. All friendly staff and no co-pays! Woo-hoo!

The facility was also very technologically inclined. All information went straight into computers. The results of my blood work and urinalysis were emailed to me at the same time they were sent to Jennifer (midwife). At first I thought it was really cool, but when I remembered I am not a doctor and that test results don’t mean anything to me until they are interpreted! So, more updates on that whenever I hear from Jennifer.

Bottom line: I am pregnant! The baby is growing in the right place and appears to be growing in a jelly bean shaped vessel. We do not have an accurate due date, but will in 13 days. Love my doctor. Have the best husband in the world. Whew, bed time for mama.

Love you all. Thanks for reading.
